本作《宇宙論 両界にて》は、密教における胎蔵界曼荼羅と金剛界曼荼羅という二つの宇宙観を主題に、甲斐哲哉の宇宙論的思索を横幅259cmの大画面に展開した作品です。
画面には、宇宙を漂う星のような形象が点在し、それらは終末なのか誕生なのか判別できない曖昧さを帯びています。
終わりは始まりであり、始まりは終わりである──上下も起点も存在しない、大宇宙の循環構造が全体構成を通して示されています。
本作では直径約4.5cmの海綿（スポンジ）によるコラージュ表現が用いられています。
この有機的な素材は、惑星や細胞、あるいは未だ正体の分からない宇宙の実態を思わせ、理論や図式では捉えきれない大摂理を象徴しています。
1964年、甲斐哲哉は世界初のボディペインティングを発表し、その前衛的表現は米国の世界的写真誌 LIFE に特集され、国際的評価を確立しました。
身体という「個」から出発した表現は、やがて宇宙と意識へと拡張され、本作では**アートマン＝ブラフマン（個と宇宙の同一性）**という思想が、造形として静かに立ち上がっています。
作家自身が語るように、本作は「宇宙の音に挑み、探り、描こうとする」試みであり、明確な答えではなく、未知そのものを提示する作品です。

Created in 2007, Cosmology: In the Two Realms explores the dual cosmology of the Taizōkai (Womb Realm) and Kongōkai (Diamond Realm) Mandalas of Esoteric Buddhism.
Spanning 259 cm in width, the horizontal composition visualizes a universe without fixed origin or hierarchy, where beginnings and endings continuously transform into one another.
Floating, star-like forms suggest both apocalypse and birth.
Organic sponge collage elements (approx. 4.5 cm) evoke planets, cells, or an unknown cosmic substance—hinting at a universe whose true nature remains beyond human understanding.
Kai pioneered the world’s first Body Painting in 1964 and was featured in LIFE magazine (USA).
From bodily expression, his work evolved toward cosmology and consciousness.
This piece embodies the concept of Atman = Brahman, presenting the unity of the individual and the cosmos as a visual experience rather than doctrine.
