本作《宇宙論～曼荼羅》は、F30号サイズのキャンバス3枚を横に連結した横幅224.2cmに及ぶ大作で、甲斐哲哉の代表的手法であるゴールドの人拓（大股3つ）が用いられています。
人拓とは、人体そのものを直接キャンバスに写し取る原初的な行為であり、本作ではその痕跡が金色で刻まれています。
肉体という「個」の存在を、永続性や神性を象徴するゴールドで可視化することで、生命がやがて宇宙的秩序──すなわち曼荼羅へと溶け込み、循環していく過程が表現されています。
画面中央に配された曼荼羅的円環と、左右へ広がる空間構成は、身体・時間・宇宙が同一のリズムで呼応しているかのような感覚を生み出します。
無数の点描や線の重なりは、細胞の生成や星雲の運動を想起させ、観る者の視線と意識を作品全体へと巡らせます。
1964年、甲斐哲哉は世界初のボディペインティングを発表し、その革新的な身体表現は米国の世界的写真誌 LIFE に特集され、国際的評価を確立しました。
本作は、その身体表現が「曼荼羅」「宇宙論」へと昇華した象徴的な作品であり、作家の思想と技法が高い次元で結実した一点といえます。

Created in 2008, Cosmology – Mandala is a large-scale triptych composed of three F30-size canvases, spanning an impressive width of 224.2 cm.
The work employs Gold Body Printing (Jintaku)—three large bodily imprints rendered in gold—one of Tetsuyoshi Kai’s most iconic techniques.
Body printing is a primal act in which the human body itself is directly transferred onto the canvas.
By rendering these bodily traces in gold, a symbol of eternity and the sacred, the artist visualizes the transformation of individual existence into a universal cosmic order—the Mandala.
The mandala-like circle at the center and the expansive horizontal composition create a rhythm in which body, time, and cosmos resonate as one.
Countless dots and flowing lines evoke cellular generation and cosmic movement, guiding the viewer’s awareness across the entire surface.
Kai pioneered the world’s first Body Painting in 1964 and was featured in LIFE magazine (USA), establishing his international reputation as a Japanese avant-garde artist.
This work represents a mature synthesis of that bodily origin and his later cosmological vision.
