1982年制作。
本作は、甲斐哲哉が自身に癌の疑いがあった時期、入退院を繰り返しながら病院のベッドの上で描いた非常に私的で切実な作品です。
血尿が止まらず、原因不明のまま検査のために病院をたらい回しにされる中、極限的な精神状態で制作されました。
画面中央を横切る淡いピンクの線は、作家自身が語る「死線」を象徴しています。
生と死の境界を超える線であり、同時に「この線を越えたら、もう少し生かしてもらえるのではないか」という、祈りにも似た願いが込められています。
インクによる有機的で増殖するような形象は、身体の内部、細胞、あるいは意識そのものを思わせます。
それらは制御された構図というよりも、生き延びようとする衝動そのものが紙に滲み出た痕跡として存在しています。
結果として病名は特定されず、「年を取れば治る」という医師の判断により特別な治療は行われませんでした。
症状は経年で自然に消え、本作は生と死の狭間を越えた“通過点”として残された作品となりました。
1964年に世界初のボディペインティングを発表し、米国の世界的写真誌 LIFE に特集された甲斐哲哉の表現史において、本作は宇宙論や曼荼羅以前の、生命そのものと真正面から向き合った原点的作品と位置づけられます。

Created in 1982, this untitled work was drawn during a period when Tetsuyoshi Kai was suspected of having cancer.
While suffering from persistent hematuria and undergoing repeated medical examinations, the artist created this piece on a hospital bed under intense psychological strain.
The pale pink line crossing the composition represents what Kai describes as the “line of death”—a boundary between life and death.
He has said that he drew this line believing that, by doing so, he might be granted more time to live.
The organic, proliferating ink forms evoke internal organs, cells, or consciousness itself.
Rather than a controlled composition, the work stands as a direct trace of the instinct to survive.
No definitive diagnosis was made, and without treatment the condition gradually resolved over time.
This work remains as a quiet testament to a moment passed through—a record of survival.
Kai later pioneered the world’s first Body Painting in 1964 and was featured in LIFE magazine (USA).
Seen in this context, this piece represents an early, deeply personal origin of his lifelong exploration of life, body, and existence.
