「洋琴」— Piano（ピアノ）
「洋琴（ようきん）」は、ピアノを表す日本の漢字表現です。「洋」は西洋から伝わった文化や楽器を、「琴」は弦を振動させて音を奏でる楽器を意味します。明治時代、日本に西洋音楽が広まる中で、ピアノは日本の琴に相当する西洋の楽器として「洋琴」と呼ばれました。1890年の新聞にも、ピアノを「洋琴」と記した例が残っています。
本作品では、鍵盤から力強く広がる音の響きと、音楽が生み出す躍動感をイメージし、勢いのある毛筆で一気に書き上げました。日本の伝統的な漢字文化と西洋音楽の出会いを表現した、力強く芸術的な書道アートとしてお楽しみください。
“Piano（洋琴 Yōkin）
“Yōkin” is a Japanese kanji term for the piano. “Yō”（洋） refers to culture and musical instruments introduced from the West, while “kin”（琴） refers to an instrument that produces sound by vibrating strings. During the Meiji era, as Western music spread throughout Japan, the piano came to be called “yōkin” as the Western instrument equivalent to the Japanese koto. Examples of the piano being referred to as “Yōkin” can still be found in newspapers from 1890.
For this piece, I envisioned the powerful resonance of sound emanating from the keys and the dynamism created by the music, and I wrote it in one fluid stroke using a vigorous brush. Please enjoy this powerful and artistic calligraphy piece, which expresses the encounter between Japan’s traditional kanji culture and Western music.
