「竪琴」— Harp(ハープ)
“Tategoto” is a term referring to stringed instruments with strings stretched vertically and played with the fingers. It encompasses instruments such as the harp and the lyre, and its origins can be traced back to ancient Greece and Mesopotamia. In Japan, stringed instruments introduced from the continent during the Nara period were incorporated into court music, and their elegant tones were cherished by the nobility. Furthermore, the Shōsō-in repository preserves fragments of the “kugo,” an ancient East Asian harp-like instrument.
In this work, I envisioned the beautiful resonance of the strings and the vitality born of music, and completed it in a single, dynamic stroke. It is a powerful yet elegant calligraphic artwork that allows viewers to experience both Japan’s kanji culture and the history of world music.
