American football
The term “Gaikyū” that I coined is a powerful and striking kanji expression for American football.
“Gai”（鎧） refers to the protective gear—such as helmets and pads—worn by players, while “kyū” （球）represents the ball.
In Japan, “鎧” has traditionally referred to the armor worn by samurai. The term was born from the image of warriors clad in armor clashing fiercely with one another. “鎧球” condenses the valiant spirit of this sport—where players fight while wearing protective gear—into two characters. I infused my brushstrokes with that dynamism and power to express the intensity that resonates with modern American football.
