「愛」は、誰かを大切に思う心、慈しみ、深い情を表す漢字です。日本では古くから、家族や恋人への愛だけでなく、自然や人、故郷、そして日々の暮らしを大切にする心としても受け継がれてきました。 この文字は、中国から伝わった漢字文化をもとに、日本独自の感性の中で育まれてきたものです。「愛」という字の成り立ちには、心を込めて相手を思い、その気持ちを抱いて振り返るような姿が表されています。 私はこの作品で、「愛」という言葉が持つ温かさだけでなく、人を想う強い心の動きを表現しました。躍動的な毛づかいで一気に筆を走らせ、力強さと繊細さが共存する一文字に仕上げています。 日本の書道では、文字の意味だけでなく、筆の勢い、余白、墨の濃淡からも書き手の心を感じ取ります。 この「愛」が、国や言葉を越えて、見る方の心に温かく響く一作品となれば幸いです。 The kanji character “愛” (ai) represents the heart that cherishes someone, as well as compassion and deep affection. In Japan, since ancient times, this concept has been passed down not only as love for family and romantic partners, but also as a mindset that values nature, people, one’s hometown, and daily life. This character was cultivated within Japan’s unique sensibility, based on the kanji culture that originated in China. The structure of the character “愛” depicts the act of thinking of another with all one’s heart and then turning back while holding that feeling. In this work, I sought to express not only the warmth inherent in the word “愛,” but also the powerful emotional stirrings that arise when thinking of others. Using dynamic brushwork, I let the brush move in one fluid stroke, creating a single character that harmonizes strength and delicacy. In Japanese calligraphy, the writer’s spirit is perceived not only through the meaning of the characters but also through the momentum of the brush, the use of negative space, and the variations in the intensity of the ink.
