琵琶パールの母貝　池蝶貝から作られたアクセサリー。 金具　14kgf サイズ　5mm 「琵琶湖真珠の母貝」 琵琶湖真珠の母貝はイケチョウガイ（池蝶貝）。 貝殻を左右に開くと、蝶の形を連想させるのが名前の由来です。 淡水は海水に比べて水温の変化が激しいのですが、 イケチョウガイは温度差に対する抵抗力が強くなっています。 また、二枚貝の中でも大きく、多くの植物プランクトンを食べるので、 水質を浄化する効果が高いといわれています。 琵琶湖の環境悪化により、絶滅の危機に瀕していましたが、 独特の光沢や形をもつ琵琶湖真珠に再び注目が集まるようになり、 再生に向けた取組が進められています。 Accessory Made from the Mother Shell of Biwa Pearls – the Iketcho Shell Piercing fittings: 14kgf 　　　Size: 5mm 　　　 “The Mother Shell of Biwa Pearls” The mother shell of Biwa pearls is the Iketcho (Hyriopsis schlegelii). Its name comes from the way the shell, when opened, resembles the wings of a butterfly. Unlike seawater, freshwater has greater fluctuations in temperature. The Iketcho shell is highly resistant to these changes. It is also one of the largest freshwater bivalves and consumes large amounts of phytoplankton, making it highly effective in purifying water. Although the deterioration of Lake Biwa’s environment once brought the Iketcho shell to the brink of extinction, the unique luster and form of Biwa pearls have recently regained attention. Efforts are now being made to restore and protect this precious resource.
