The Obon Spirit Stamp Set is a collection of five hand-carved eraser stamps that capture Japan’s midsummer home-coming ritual.
The motifs are a swift cucumber horse, a patient eggplant ox, a glowing hōzuki lantern, its gentle leaf, and a fresh green maple leaf.
Together they let you stamp the entire story of Obon—welcome, guidance, farewell, and the first hint of seasonal change—onto cards, journals, tags, or gifts.
During Obon, families invite ancestral spirits home with guiding fires or lanterns and send them off again three days later.
Vegetable “spirit vehicles” play the role of transport: the cucumber horse speeds loved ones back, while the eggplant ox carries them gently away, laden with blessings.
Bright orange hōzuki fruits appear in summer markets as natural paper lamps, and their soft leaves suggest quiet protection.
A single moegi-green maple leaf whispers that another turn of the seasons is waiting just beyond the haze of August.
Cucumber horse means fast return; eggplant ox means slow, safe farewell; the hōzuki lantern lights the night path; its leaf conveys shelter; the green maple leaf signals the shift toward autumn.

While I aim to match the designs shown in my photos,
each handmade piece has its own unique character.
I hope you'll appreciate the special nature of these handcrafted items.
To protect your stamp, avoid storing it in plastic containers as the eraser may melt.
Instead, use a paper box or line your container with paper.
This simple step will help your stamp last longer.
Always clean off any ink before storing your stamp.
Oil-based inks can be especially damaging to the stamp's surface.
Regular cleaning with stamp cleaner will help maintain your stamp's quality and extend its lifespan.
