木彫りの蛾（ニトベミノガ）です。 素材はヒノキ、着彩はアクリル絵の具です。 サイズは約高さ10㎝、横幅6㎝、奥行き6.5㎝です。 ミノムシは蛾の幼虫なのだけれど、彼らは成虫になると雄雌でずいぶん違う姿になります。 雌は、大きな腹にたくさんの卵を持っています。でも翅も手足も無いし、目もほとんど見えないから、成虫になったら二度と生きて蓑から出ることはありません。 雄は大きな触角で雌の匂いを見つけると、三角の翅で飛んで行って雌を探し当て、交尾をします。 人間も、平安時代には高貴な身分の女性は姿を見せない文化があったらしい。 男性は噂話から女性を想像して、恋をしたのだそうだ。 This is a wood carving of a moth ( Psychidae(Mahasena aurea)). The material is cypress and the coloring is acrylic paint. The size is approximately 10 cm (height), 6 cm (width), and 6.5 cm (depth). In Japan, Psychidae is called "Mino-mushi. A "mino" is a raincoat made of woven straw or other material. A raincoat is a rain gear, but it is also a tool for hiding one's appearance. It is a famous magical tool possessed by Japanese yokai. Their nests resemble mino and they hide in the mino. So they are called mino+mushi(insect). Psychidae are moth larvae, but as adults, males and females look very different. The female has a large abdomen with many eggs. The female has no wings, limbs, or eyes, and as an adult she never leaves her front alive again. The male uses his large antennae to find the female's scent, and flies with his triangular wings to find her and mate with her. Humans, too, apparently had a culture in Japan in the past (Heian period) in which women of noble status did not show themselves. Men imagined women from gossip and fell in love with them.
